Protective Behaviours

At Wirrabirra Education Support Centre we place a strong emphasis on the safety of our students. Protective Behaviours is a program that is integrated across all learning areas and teaches students how to keep themselves safe from the risks that surround us in our everyday life. By teaching and reinforcing the two concepts “everyone has the right to feel safe all of the time” and “we can talk with anyone about anything”, as well as relationships circles and safety networks. Protective Behaviours is a key component within each child’s Individual Education Plan and is explicitly taught in all classrooms. We aim to upskills our students with strategies they need to keep themselves safe, which is implemented through role play, social stories, structured lessons, excursions, incursions, and Community Access.
